Integrating Climate Change Adaptation into Agriculture Sector Planning of Nepal

Overview The integration of climate change adaptation actions into government’s regular plans, policies and practices could be improved. One underlying reason is the need to update knowledge of extension workers and planners on climate change, vulnerability assessment, selection of adaptation options, integration of climate action into local development plans, and monitoring and evaluation of adaptation actions. Improving capacity is thus imperative to appropriately include climate actions in plans, programmes and practices and creating impact at scale. This handbook has been prepared to support government staff responsible for managing the process of integrating agriculture into the National Adaptation Plan and managing national sectoral adaptation planning and processes. It provides the background information necessary for policy makers to understand and drive integration and sector planning. UNDP and FAO have produced a Training of Trainers (ToT) manual on climate change integration into agriculture to support capacity building of government planners and extension workers at different levels of government. The work is a joint project titled Integrating Agriculture into National Adaptation Planning (NAP-Ag) and is implemented with support from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) of the Federal Republic of Germany via the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The ToT manual and handbook were designed to complement each other.
